Russ Remick with some of the menorahs from his collection on display at The Dayton Art Institute

Through Jan. 6, The Dayton Art Institute will display menorahs from the collection of Russ and the late Betty Remick, in Betty’s memory, as part of its annual Hall of Holidays exhibit in the museum’s lower level galleries. The Remicks, who lived across the street from The Dayton Art Institute for more than 20 years, made 25 trips to Israel, where they collected their menorahs. The exhibit in the Hall of Holidays includes a Kwanzaa display with works by local artist Bing Davis, and a display of Christmas prints from the museum’s collection.

Also featured through Jan. 6 in the DAI’s lower level galleries are works from the annual Max May Memorial Holocaust Art Exhibition. The installation features art from middle and high school students in public, private and parochial schools across the Miami Valley.

The art contest is held under the auspices of the Holocaust Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Dayton and is sponsored by Renate Frydman and her family in memory of their grandfather, Max May. Participating schools in the 2012 exhibition include Archbishop Alter High School, Chaminade Julienne High School, Mad River Local Schools and Warner Middle School.
