Wright State University will present a performance of the one-person play Anschel by Michael London, based on the book Anschel’s Story by Renate Frydman, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 17 in the Creative Arts Center’s Herbst Theatre. The free presentation is sponsored by the Dayton Holocaust Resource Center, based at Wright State, to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The center’s founder and director, Frydman published the book Anschel’s Story in 2017. It’s her late husband’s story of survival in Nazi-occupied Poland. Told in the first person, it relates how Anschel “Charlie” Frydman stayed alive as a slave laborer and then as a partisan fighter, when he was only a youth, after his parents and two sisters were murdered.

Anschel is the first play in London’s Resilience Trilogy series of Holocaust-related plays. It had its premiere at the JCC of Greater Columbus in 2025 and its local premiere at the Dayton Art Institute in March.

The Dayton Holocaust Resource Center is an interdisciplinary resource supporting instruction across education, ethics, medicine, and social sciences. Its collection of books, films, curriculum guides, and classroom materials addresses the Holocaust, genocide, racism, antisemitism, and bullying.
