Laughs with Chasnoff

Comedian Joel Chasnoff will lead two community-wide Chanukah events in Dayton — one for adults, the other for teens — over the weekend of Dec. 15-16.

On Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m., Chasnoff will perform stand-up at the Jewish Community Leadership Council’s Chanukah Party at the Boonshoft CJCE, 525 Versailles Dr., Centerville. The cost is $5 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres and desserts, with a cash bar available.

The newly formed Jewish Community Leadership Council comprises Dayton’s synagogues, Chabad and the Jewish Federation.

Earlier that evening, at 5:30 p.m., Chasnoff will join a cocktail fund-raiser at Temple Beth Or, 5275 Marshall Rd., Washington Township.

On Sunday, Dec. 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Temple Beth Or will host Teen Lunch & Laugh. The program is free and open to all Jewish teenagers in grades eight through 12.

Chasnoff first came to Dayton in June 2011 to talk about his book, The 188th Crybaby Brigade: A Skinny Jewish Kid from Chicago Fights Hezbollah.

For a year, Chasnoff served as a tank gunner in the Israel Defense Forces.

Much of his humor focuses on growing up Jewish. In addition to performing at comedy clubs and festivals across America, Chasnoff is a regular on college campuses and at Chabads, Hillels, Jewish Federations and synagogues of all movements.
