South Dayton Chavura suspends gatherings

South Dayton Conservative Chavura

In an Oct. 23 e-mail to members of the South Dayton Conservative Chavura, organizer Hank Stern announced that the group will “be suspending our monthly gatherings, and we will focus exclusively on two areas: the annual Seder each spring, and providing spiritual (and other) help to those in need when appropriate and required.” The decision coincides with Beth Abraham Synagogue’s plans to move from Dayton View to Oakwood’s Sugar Camp, just south of Dayton. Beth Abraham is the Dayton area’s only Conservative congregation. The chavura, established almost six years ago by a dozen families, sought to bring a Conservative Jewish presence to Dayton’s south suburbs. Each month, the chavura offered a Shabbat morning service and a Ma’ariv/Havdalah service.
