Boston College Film Studies Prof. Dr. John Michalczyk will present a screening and discussion of his PBS documentary The Shadow of the Reich: Nazi Medicine for the first community seminar of Wright State University’s Medicine and the Holocaust course.
The community is invited to attend the public program, to be held on Thursday, March 19 in the Apollo Room of Wright State’s Student Union beginning with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and Michalczyk’s presentation at 7 p.m.
Michalczyk, who has taught at Boston College since 1974, directs its film studies program. His documentaries have focused on World War II and the Holocaust, and conflict resolution around the world.
Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine has offered the elective Medicine and the Holocaust course for its fourth-year medical students since 2008.
According to Dr. David Shuster, who teaches the elective, the reception will give the general community a sample of what the medical students learn over the year-long course.
“We will have Holocaust survivors, concentration camp liberators and professors at the reception at individual experiential tables to interact directly with the community,” he said.
