Ruth Aides, a beautiful, graceful, fashionable woman, died peacefully July 20 at the age of 100. Mrs. Aides was the beloved wife of Sam (deceased) and sister to Bea Cowan, Joe Friedman, Milton Friedman, Mose Friedman and Jayne Friedman. Mrs. Aides was the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. Her 100 birthday celebration was held in Florida with a party in her honor on March 3, given by Bea Cowan’s five children. As a tribute to Mrs. Aides, more than 59 relatives attended from all over the United States, including Hawaii. Interment was at Beth Abraham Cemetery. She will be missed, but the lesson she provide all her nieces and nephews will go on forever.

Irene “Judy” Potasky lost her life to cancer on Aug. 15. Mrs. Potasky was born in New York on Sept. 7, 1939 to Jack and Lillian Orlinsky. She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Heidi Simonsen and her husband Dean and family and Lorin Friedman and his wife Marge; her loving sister and brother-in-law Ellie and Rick Klein and their children Stephanie, Tom, and Amy and their families. Mrs. Potasky was a graduate of Packer College and Hofstra University in New York. She was an extremely creative and talented art teacher in Connecticut and Ohio, a dynamic member of the “Classy Ladies” tap dancing group, which performed throughout the community, an avid scrabble player and reader, an excellent golfer, and an enthusiastic traveler making friends wherever she went. She had a great sense of humor and a warmth that was unmatched. Mrs. Potasky volunteered at Kettering Memorial Hospital, became a top-notch sales woman, and cared passionately about her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her bright smile, sparkling blue eyes, and loving heart.

Rabbi Victor David Zwelling, age 76, of Delray Beach, formerly of Dayton, died after a lengthy illness Aug. 18 at Lakeview Care Center. Rabbi Zwelling was a graduate of The Ohio State University and received his ordination from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. He served as a rabbi in Erie, Pa., Waltham, Mass., Madison, Wis.; and Miami before entering into the family business. During the 1970s he was extremely active on behalf of Soviet Jewry and was sent on a mission by the Israeli government to the former Soviet Union to visit refusniks. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a lifelong learner of Torah and teacher to countless students. Rabbi Zwelling was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Charles Zwelling, and brother Neil Zwelling. He is survived by his devoted wife, Eleanor (nee Cohen); daughter, Devora (Alan) Sorscher of Chicago; sons, Josh (Deva) Zwelling of Chicago; and Avi (Shulie) Zwelling of Boca Raton. He was cherished Papa to Lauren, Jennifer, Carly, Jacob, Ariella, Zeke, Jordana, Simona, Binyamin, Aliza, and Doniel; dear brother of Joel (Dee) Zwelling and Rena (Howard) Beyer. Interment was at Beth Abraham Cemetery. If desired memorial contributions may be made to Chai Lifeline, Amit, Hospice of Palm Beach County Florida in Rabbi Zwelling’s memory.
