Rabbi Janice Garfunkel was among nine recipients of an honorary doctor of divinity degree on March 21 at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati.
Casey Weinstein was named one of the Dayton Business Journals’s 2013 40 under 40 honorees. Casey is a senior account executive with Gartner Inc.
Through June 15, the photography of Joan Marcus and Dr. Michael Jaffe will be on exhibit at Aullwood Nature Center in Englewood. Aullwood will host a reception for the exhibits on Sunday, May 19 at 2 p.m.
Matt Diamond, a junior at Centerville High School, has completed his third year on the CHS Bowling Team. Matt averaged 193.69 and finished his season qualifying individually for the state championships. He placed 30th in the state with a 569 3-game score. His parents are Susan and Rob Diamond. Matt was joined on the team this year by freshman Grant Halasz. Grant averaged 187.33 and earned the award of JV Bowler of the Year. Grant’s parents are Teri and Dr. Mike Halasz. Matt and Grant bowl competitively in leagues and tournaments outside of the high school season.
Oakwood High School junior Melissa Frydman will compete in dramatic interpretation at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in June in Birmingham, Ala. Proud parents are Angela and Joel Frydman.
When Noah Baumgarten turned 3 in March, he and his parents, Lauren and Adam Baumgarten, celebrated his upsherin (first haircut) by donating 10 curly inches of his hair to Locks of Love.
