Beth Or targets young adults this Purim with dance club theme

Beth Or Purim

If you’re Jewish, between the ages of 21 and 45 and wouldn’t think of visiting a synagogue for a megillah reading, Rabbi Judy Chessin wants you.

Chessin, spiritual leader of Temple Beth Or, a Reform congregation in Washington Township, says this year’s Purim event, Dance Through the Decades, is aimed at attracting this coveted demographic.

While drinking and dancing on Purim are not unusual, Chessin said Beth Or will feature a martini bar and beer keg, with DJ Ruckus Roboticus (Dan Haug) spinning retro tunes. The club-themed celebration, set for Saturday, March 3, will also feature dance instruction. ”

We invite everyone, of all ages, along with families, to join us at 7 p.m. for our megillah reading,” Chessin said.

Following the reading, Dancing Through the Decades will be open to adults 21 and up; there is a $5 cover charge. For more information, call Temple Beth Or at 435-3400.
