Mikey Weinstein, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, will be the guest speaker for a program presented by Temple Beth Or and Temple Israel on Sunday, Feb. 13 from 3-5 p.m. at Temple Beth Or.
The foundation, which Weinstein describes as “militant” and “in your face,” aims to ensure that military personnel don’t use their official positions to endorse particular religious views on subordinates while on duty.
His son and daughter-in-law, Casey and Amanda Weinstein, are members of Temple Israel. The three are featured in Oren Jacoby’s documentary Constantine’s Sword, based on the book by James Carroll about the manifestation of Christian antisemitism in the military.
Weinstein is the author of With God On Our Side: One Man’s War Against an Evangelical Coup in America’s Military, was named one of the 50 most influential Jews in America by the Forward, and this year will receive the first Person of the Year award from Americans United for the Separation of Church and State.
The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call Temple Beth Or at 435-3400.
