Liev Schreiber as Zus Bielski in Defiance

Zvi Bielski, son of Zus Bielski — one of the three Bielski brothers who led a Jewish partisan brigade in Belorussia that saved more than 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust, the subject of the film Defiance — will be the guest speaker for Chabad’s screening of Defiance with a Chinese buffet dinner on Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009 at 5 p.m.

Directed by Edward Zwick, Defiance was released in January 2009. Zus Bielski died in Brooklyn at the age of 83 in 1995; his son, Zvi Bielski, lives in Brooklyn.

In a January interview with the New York Daily News, Zvi Bielski said of his father, “Before he died, he gripped my arm and told me, ‘You tell the world what I did with my brothers.’”
