Miami Valley Mikvah celebrates founders, 18 years

The Miami Valley Mikvah will honor its founders, Patti and Lee Schear, Susan and Martin Schear, and Brenda Rinzler, at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7 at the facility, 600 Sugar Camp Circle, Oakwood.
The Miami Valley Mikvah was established as an entity in 2007; the facility opened in September 2009. A mikvah is a ritual purification bath where observant married Jewish women immerse themselves following their monthly cycle. Mikvahs are also used for conversions to Judaism and for immersion of new kitchenware products. Though not required by Jewish law, some men immerse themselves in the mikvah as a spiritual exercise.
The program includes tours, food, and music, with a grant from the Esther and DeNeal Feldman Jewish Experience Fund of the Dayton Jewish Foundation. RSVP to Devorah Mangel, mvmikvah@gmail.com.
