Hillel Academy to shorten school day to 3 p.m. dismissal

Hillel Academy dismissal time

As of the 2007-08 school year, Hillel Academy, the Miami Valley’s Jewish day school, will change student dismissal time from 3:40 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“We are pleased to offer this change as well as continue our on-site after-school care,” Tom Tudor, headmaster of the school, said.

Judaic Principal Josh Zwelling said the new dismissal schedule will allow “our students who have many varied interests a chance to pursue other lessons and extra-curriculars.”

Up to this school year, Hillel has offered a 3 p.m. dismissal time on Fridays during winter months, when Sabbath falls early.

Hillel Board President Dr. Adam Waldman said the change recognizes needs of current and future students and parents.

“These needs include minimizing the impact of longer travel time due to our diverse geographical base and our students’ ability to participate in various extracurricular activities,” he said. “We now offer our own after-care program and will soon offer extracurricular activities in association with the DJCC for parents who still desire or require a later release.”

Established in 1962, Hillel Academy is located in Harrison Township. Currently, 65 students are enrolled at Hillel, from preschool to eighth grade.
